Waiting for Baby BASH ♥ Murfreesboro, TN Maternity Photography
March 3, 2009 | Filed Under Maternity | Leave a Comment
This lovely mama and doting dad are expecting their first child, a son, in a little less than a month. Mama is calling him baby BASH (those are his initials), and Daddy sweetly refers to him as Ben-Ben. I had such a blast capturing these images for them. They were very laid back and lots of fun - and their excitement about becoming a family of 3 reminded me of what a sweet and wonderful chapter of life this is.
Here are just a few of my favorites from our session:

Matt & Christina ~ I am so honored that you chose me to capture your maternity & newborn images. I can’t wait to meet Baby BASH… see you soon!

Aren’t these little lips pure perfection? Actually, everything about baby Trace is marvelous. He is the newest blessing to a very special family. I had the honor of capturing him while he’s so new & tiny… 10 days new. Trace ~ I look forward to watching you grow… in stature and in spirit. Love, Miss Courtney

I am embarrassed to admit this to you, but I don’t have many pictures hanging on my walls. Crazy, right?? I think one of my problems is that I have too many images that I love, and I just don’t know where to start. If I put them all on display, then we would basically wallpaper every wall with pictures. Unless I’m missing out on some new trend, I’m pretty sure that’s not the cutting edge of home decor.
I decided to tackle the long empty wall in our kitchen first. I knew I wanted my theme for the wall to be “family”. I also decided on all black and white images because a) I love BW! and b) I wanted the focus to be on the people and relationships in the photos without the competition of a lot of different colors. I designed my layout in Photoshop and set about to the most difficult task of the entire project: picking the photos.
Here is the layout I designed:

And here is the finished product:

I can’t tell you how happy this wall makes me. We enjoy looking at these images every time we eat a meal. It makes the kitchen seem ‘finished’ now that the walls are bare no more, and it makes our house feel like a home.
Do you struggle with how to display your portraits? or do you have wall galleries that even Pottery Barn would envy?
If you are in the latter category, send me some inspiration photos!
Ava is One! | Mt. Juliet, TN Baby Session

One of my favorite babies has turned ONE… Miss Ava Shaye. It seems like just yesterday I was capturing pictures of her mommy & daddy in the days before her…as they awaited the answer to their prayer. I also had the privilege to capture her as a newborn, and then again at six months, and again yesterday. She has the most precious round face and beautiful blue eyes… I could just eat her up! Speaking of eating… she loves her some birthday cake (or “icing” to be more exact)! She had a definite plan of attack on how best to approach the icing - she would eat one little “dot” at a time… very lady-like. Until she went in face-first!
Mom & Dad - here is a tiny little peek to satisfy your curiosity. I have thoroughly enjoyed capturing your beautiful family over the past year… and feel truly honored that you chose me to capture your moments through my lens. XOXO - Courtney

Fall Flashback | Murfreesboro, TN Family Session

I don’t really do “family sessions”, per se. Yes, I do incorporate family at most every session, but I consider myself much more adept to capture a single subject (specifically babies from birth to age one). However, last year I said “yes” to a family who asked me to photograph them with their beautiful children (then in 4th and 6th grades). It was sort of a test, if you will… and I was quick to tell them that there were no promises as this was unchartered territory for me.
I was unable to share the images on the blog last year because they were surprising their families with portraits for Christmas. But with fall in full swing, I wanted to showcase them now. They’re a lovely family, don’t you agree??

My Guy @ Five

My son turned five back in July, but I hadn’t really gotten around to capturing new portraits of him until this past week. I’ve found that the older he gets, the harder it is to photograph him. Methinks it probably has something to do with having the camera in his face SO MUCH. I did get some captures of him that I love, and I wanted to share a few here with you so you can see the reason I picked up a camera in the first place… my Jacob.

And finally, Jacob in his Halloween costume… a CALCULATOR. What can I say?! The boy LOVES numbers.

This precious baby boy is Gabriel… and I think the name is very fitting, for he certainly looks like an angel to me. His lovely mommy was featured in my last maternity session. Even though Gabriel was close to a month old on the day of our session, we were still able to get him to sleep fairly easily and capture some beautiful images. To his mom and grandmother, I hope you enjoy your little sneak peek. It was a joy to capture your little angel.

Finn & Libby | Franklin, TN Toddler/Child Session

I first captured little man Finn about a year ago, when he was 7 months old. Last time, he was sitting up in one spot or being held by his mama and daddy most of the time. He even took a little catnap while I was there. Let me just tell you how much a year changes things.
He has since learned to walk… no, make that RUN… and I did my best to keep up!! Big sister Libby recently turned 5 and I was able to capture her this time around, too. One thing that has not changed is how lovely this family is.
Fran - hope you enjoy your sneak peek! Sorry to keep you in suspense.

Callie & Co. | Murfreesboro, TN Baby Session

I have been wanting to get my hands on this little babe for a while… and finally got my chance last week. Callie is the newest member of one of my favorite families. She is the happiest baby I’ve ever been around. AND she’s fallen asleep while I’ve held her on two different occasions, so I think that officially trumps her dad (gotcha, J!).
I love her big blue eyes, her chubby little rolls, and her little blonde spot right up front. She is a total doll baby!

Ironically, it was big sister Sydney who was working the camera the most during my visit. This sweet girl completely captures my heart… I just love her. She brought out her princess stuff, her hair accessories… she even fixed MY hair.

And I can’t leave out big brother Noah - he is 100% all boy and keeps me up to date on the latest boy stuff. Star Wars? Check. Speed Racer? That too. I love how much he loves his toys. Not only that, both he and Sydney are completely smitten with baby Callie.

Simply Radiant | Murfreesboro, TN Maternity Session

This beautiful mother-to-be was such a joy to photograph today. I believe what they say about expectant mothers having a glow about them… at almost 37 weeks, Denisha is simply radiant. She is similar to many women, in that she originally didn’t want to be in front of the camera for a session like this. However, her mother convinced her that someday she will treasure these images and be glad that she captured the moment.
I have to admit that even though I always have and always will cringe at being in front of the camera, I do wish that I had something beyond a couple of snapshots to show the changes my body went through during my pregnancy. To me, the beauty in these types of images is not defined by what size you are or how you look… the beauty is the miracle of a new life within, that could only be crafted by the hands of God.
